![]() ONE THING I WOULD NEVER DO IS PLAY AROUND WITH THE TRUTH ABOUT HIS LIFE. ALL I WILL SAY ABOUT IT IS THAT OUR TIME TOGETHER WAS BEAUTIFUL, WE BUILT A HIP HOP LEGACY TOGETHER, AND NO ONE CAN RE-WRITE HISTORY OR TAKE AWAY MY LOVE FOR HIM. I’VE BEEN ASKED TO COMMENT ON A LETTER SPEAKING ILL OF ME WHICH WAS SUPPOSEDLY WRITTEN BY GURU IN HIS DYING DAYS. TRAGICALLY, WE WILL NEVER REACH THAT DAY. IT WAS A SAD DAY FOR ME TO GET CONFIRMATION ON THE DEATH OF A MAN WHO I WILL CONTINUE TO CALL MY BROTHER, KEITH ELAM, BETTER KNOWN AS GURU OF THE LEGENDARY GANG STARR.įROM 1988-2004, WE EXPERIENCED SO MUCH SUCCESS TOGETHER THAT WE WERE ABLE TO EXPAND OUR BUSINESSES INDEPENDENTLY AND GIVE EACH OTHER WHAT GURU CALLED “CREATIVE SPACE”, BEFORE PLANNING TO REUNITE FOR OUR 7TH LP WHEN THE TIME WAS RIGHT. Nas Will Rock (Unreleased Produced By Pete Rock) On The Real (Original Marley Marl Demo Mix ft Cormega & Khamakazie)Ģ5. Deja Vu (Demo) *Later to be Used on Verbal IntercourseĢ1. Lifes A Bitch (Rough Draft Studio Session)ġ9. Who's World Is This (Rough Draft From DJ Hollywood)ġ3. Nas Will Prevail (Large Professor's "It Ain't Hard To Tell" Demo Mix)ġ2. I'm A Villain (Demo) *Both Joints Would Become NY Stae of Mindġ1. This isn't his demo tape, but it is a compilation of his earliest work.Ħ. Freestyles, demo's and never heard before records by an unsigned Nas. I got that.’ He didn’t show the gun like, ‘I’m gonna shoot you,’ but we were all just like, ‘Whew!’”Ī while back we put a Nas demo tape up in the Rap Treats section which gave a pretty good look at a pre Illmatic Nas, but this one is much more comprehensive. “Jay came outta nowhere, reachin’ in his gym bag like, ‘Don’t even sweat these niggas. “We were figuring we were gonna have to knuckle down,” explains LP of the incident, which Jay has used to attack Nas. The angry crowd rushed the stage and chased the rappers back unto their tour bus. the sound system cut out, forcing the artists to do the same. One particular night of that tour came up recently in the very public catfight between Jay-Z (then Jaz’s hypeman) and Nas (who rolled with Main Source). Main Source soon set off on tour, along with the UMCs and Jaz. Well the back story has been unearthed in a very dope Large Professor piece done for XXL back in 2002 (okay, so it was unearthed 8 years ago but I just caught wind of it recently). To refresh your memory it goes "You scribbled in your notepad and created your life/I showed you your first tec on tour with Large Professor/(Me, that’s who!) Then I heard your album bout your tec on the dresser". I've always wondered about that Jay-Z line in "Takeover" that calls out Nas for keeping his "tec on the dresser".
